Scholar Comments

The following are comments from Act Six scholars reflecting on the Act Six program and their year of training:

  • "The training has been very important to me in that it has provided a means by which I can better myself. It has also introduced me to new ways of thinking about the world. The knowledge I have gained will aid me greatly in bettering myself and the world."
  • "My involvement with Act Six has made me a better communicator and public speaker and has given me the confidence to be myself."
  • "I have felt stretched and encouraged to grow to the fullest extent. There were times when I was forced to think outside of the box and at times this was difficult. But now, I thank the program for this. Also, the cadre encouraged me to think and I felt comfortable sharing my thoughts even though they may not have agreed with others' ideas."
  • "This training has really helped shape my daily actions. I share what I learn with close friends and family and it's great to see them learning through me."
  • "I truly believe that Act Six has made me grow and learn more about myself and the people around me. I have definitely learned to look past the bad things and look at the bigger picture with people I know and meet and in situations that I have been in. These trainings have made a huge impact on my growth into a more mature and intellectual adult and I know that I will carry them with me when I go onto college and beyond."
  • "Learning about cultural climates and personality types has proven to me that there are so many different cultures and people in the world we live in. On a day-to-day basis we in Tacoma encounter things that many people never get a chance to experience."
  • "I learned that I am a leader, but even leaders have fears and struggles. I found that I am not the only one who struggles with the anxieties of what is to come in the future (going off to college, being away from home, leaving friends and family, etc.). I also found that I'll be okay next year because I learned the definition of team work. I know I'll be okay because I'm surrounded by such great people and when we struggle, we'll overcome it as a whole."
