2010 Oregon Act Six Partners

Act Six is an initiative of the Portland Leadership Foundation (PLF), an emerging non-profit organization focused on bringing systemic change to city problems. Through collaboration, innovation, and tireless energy—we find city solutions. In addition to Act Six, PLF is engaged in a wide range of education, mentoring, and leadership development programs in Portland. Portland Leadership Foundation does not operate Act Six in a vacuum. Along with our support staff, we also have an Act Six Advisory Board who helps us dream, represents us in their spheres of influence, and belongs to our greater family.

George Fox is a mid-sized university, offering both personal attention and a solid, Christ-centered education that integrates faith and intellect.

The university is located 23 miles from Portland, the state’s cultural and business center. Since its founding in 1891, George Fox has remained a vital part of the friendly town of Newberg (pop. 20,000). The university was founded and continues to be affiliated with the Evangelical Friends (Quaker), a church long known for its commitment to social justice.

George Fox is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top-tier regional university. The Templeton Foundation has named the university one of just 100 colleges or universities in the nation recognized for its commitment to encouraging character development.

About half of the university’s 3,200 students are in undergraduate programs. Highlights of the undergraduate programs:

  • Thirty-four majors including engineering, nursing, business, elementary education, biology, psychology, art, Christian ministries, writing and literature, music, and accounting.
  • Student to faculty ratio of 12:1, average class size of 20.
  • Incoming undergraduates receive a computer to use and keep upon graduation. 
  • More than 75 percent of all four-year George Fox students participated in an overseas study or service experience.
  • NCAA Division III and Northwest Conference championship-winning athletic teams.
  • Medical school placement rate of 96 percent for premed program.

Warner Pacific College

Warner Pacific College is an urban Christ-centered four-year liberal arts college located in the heart of Portland that actively engages students in transformative learning processes. Founded in 1937 by the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana), Warner Pacific creates an atmosphere of faith-based intellectual inquiry where students can reflect deeply on their identity and their place in the world. Our personalized internships, independent study courses and interdisciplinary approach to learning help prepare our students to pursue successful careers and lead lives of meaningful service.

  • 26 majors including Urban Studies, Business Administration, Communications, Human Development, Social Work, and Christian Ministries
  • NAIA, Division II athletics; varsity teams include: Basketball, Soccer, Track and Field, Cross Country, Golf
